Die Honderdhandige Briareos in ’n politieke spotprent.

Die Honderdhandiges of Hekatoncheire (Grieks: Ἑκατόγχειρες) is figure uit die eerste stadium van die Griekse mitologie. Hulle was drie reuse met ongelooflike krag en snelheid, elk met honderd arms en vyftig koppe. Hul naam kom van die Griekse ἑκατόν (ekatron, "honderd") en χείρ (cheir, "hand").

Mite

Volgens Hesiodus se Theogonie was die Honderdhandiges die kinders van die oergode Gaia (Aarde) en Uranos (Lug). Hul name was Briareos (Βριάρεως, die Lewenskragtige), Kottos (Κόττος, die Slaner van die Woedendes) en Gyges (Γύγης, die Een met die Groot Ledemate).

Hul pa, Uranos, het hulle en die eenoog-siklope, nog kinders van hom en Gaia, net ná hul geboorte in die dieptes van Tartaros gegooi omdat hy hulle as monsters beskou het. Uranos se seun Kronos het hulle bevry toe hy Uranos ontman en die nuwe oppergod geword het. Daarna het Kronos hulle teruggestuur Tartaros toe.

Hulle is eindelik deur Kronos se seun Zeus bevry om hom, sy broers en sy susters teen Kronos en sy Titane te help veg in die Titanestryd, waaruit Zeus en sy Olimpiese gode as oorwinnaars getree het.
