Segue 2史隆数位巡天在2009年于白羊座发现的一个矮椭球星系 [2]。这个星系距离太阳大约35,000秒差距(35,000秒差距(110,000光年)),并且相对于太阳以40km/s的速度运动[2]。它被归类为矮椭球星系(dSph),意味着它大致为圆形与半光半径约34秒差距[2]

Segue 2是银河系最小和最黯淡的卫星星系之一[note 1][4]—它的集成发光度大约是太阳的800倍(绝对视星等大约是-2.5),这远低于大多数球状星团的发光度[2]。然而,这个星系的质量 -约550,000太阳质量- 相当大,对应的质光比约为650[2]

Segue 2的恒星族群主要是超过120亿年以前形成的老年恒星[2]。这些恒星的金属量都非常低,约是[Fe/H] < −2,这意味着太阳所含的重元素至少是其100倍[2]。Segue 2中的恒星可能是在宇宙中形成的第一批恒星,目前在Segue 2没有新的恒星生成[2]
