巴德窗
巴德窗是天空中沿着地球向银河中心的视线方向，星际尘埃相对较少的一个区域。朝向银河中心的方向通常都被星际尘埃遮挡住，因此这个区域是观测银河中心的一个"窗口"，可以观测银河的核球。这个区域对应于银河系中可见的最明亮斑块之一，以最早认识到其重要性的天文学家沃尔特·巴德的名字命名。
历史
沃尔特·巴德于1940年代中期在加利福尼亚州的威尔逊山天文台使用100-英寸（2.5-米）的虎克望远镜观察这一地区的恒星，同时寻找银河系的中心。在当时，对银河系中心的位置和结构都还不能确定[1]。
意义
巴德窗经常在可见光和接近可见光的波长上，用来研究远处核球中心的恒星。关于银河系内部几何的重要资讯，迄今仍然在通过这个窗口进行的观测才得以完善。这个窗口的位置在人马座的方向[2]。现在知道通过窗口观察到的是核球略为偏南的位置。这个窗口的轮廓和子项是不规则的，它以球状星团NGC 6522为中心，大约有1度的大小[3]。
巴德窗是可以看到中央核球星星的6个区域中最大的一个[4]。
OGLE和其它的观测计划专案已经透过探测围绕这一区域中央突起的核球，使用重力微透镜的方法，成功的检测到太阳系外行星。
在巴德窗观测到的恒星可以称为BW星；同样的，巨大的恒星也可以称为BW巨星。
