原始论文[2]提出了系外卫星的两条独立证据线,一条凌日时间变分法表示海王星质量的卫星,另一条光度下降表示海王星半径的卫星。对2019年2月发表的观测结果的独立重新分析[7]恢复了两者,但表明倾斜和隐藏的热木星也可能是罪魁祸首,这可以通过未来的多普勒光谱径向速度观测进行测试。第三项分析该数据集的研究恢复了凌日时间变分法的特征,但没有恢复光度下降,因此质疑了系外卫星假说[8]。最初的发现团队后来发表的这篇论文,发现它们的重新还原表现出更高的系统学,这可能解释了它们的不同结论[9]
