WR 137的光谱显示电离碳和氦突出的发射线。

WR 137位于天鹅座,是一颗距离地球大约6,000光年的沃夫–瑞叶星变星。 WR 137与WR 134WR 135是1867年在天鹅座观测到的3颗光谱在连续的谱带中有强烈的发射线,而不是常见的吸收线组成。它们是天文学家沃夫瑞叶发现的第一批外观不寻常,并以发现著的名字命名的沃夫–瑞叶星[9]。它是碳序列的沃夫–瑞叶星,表明缺乏氮的谱线而有强的碳发射谱线射。WR 137光谱的CIII发射比CIV微弱,OV也微弱,因此它的光谱型为WC7。它的频谱还显示HeII和OIV的谱线[10][4]

WR 137是联星系统,伴星O9的主序星巨星。这两颗星在一个相对扁平的椭圆轨道上互绕,轨道周期为13年。在近星点附近似乎产生了一个尘埃云。轨道的倾斜度不确定,很可能在67°附近,氮一些分析的建议值在23°左右[7]。O型星在视觉上更亮,质量也更大,但WR星主导了光谱,具有更高的辐射热发光度(热光度)。

WR 137距离WR135大约1度,两者被认为都在天鹅座OB3星协内,且与地球有大致相同的距离[11]。因为存在热发光伴侣,使它的属性不确定。组合光谱的伪拟合产生56,000K的温度,光度为537,000 L,半径为10 R。典型WC7型的半径是4.5 R,这意味着温度要更热[7]
