M2或梅西耶2，也称为NGC 7089，在虚宿一（宝瓶座β）北方5度，是位于宝瓶座的一个球状星团。它是乔瓦尼·多梅尼科·马拉迪在1746年发现的，是已知最大的球状星团之一。
发现和可见性
乔瓦尼·多梅尼科·马拉迪在1746年与雅克·卡西尼一起观测彗星时发现了这个球状星团。查尔斯·梅西耶在1760年重新发现了它，但认为它是一个星云，没有任何恒星与它有关。在1783年，威廉·赫谢尔率先解析出这个星团中的恒星。
在非常好的观测条件下，肉眼可以直接看见M2。双筒望远镜或小望远镜可以确认这是星团，不是单独的一颗恒星。大望远镜可以解析出一颗颗的恒星，集团中最亮的恒星其视星等为13.1等。
特征
M2距离地球大约55,000光年，直径175光年，是已知较的球状星团之一。这个星团的恒星为数众多且紧凑，整体呈现显著的椭圆形。它有130亿年的历史，是与银河系相关的古老球状星团之一。[来源请求]
M2包含大约150,000颗恒星，已知其中有21颗变星。星团中最亮的恒星是红巨星和黄巨星，整体的光谱类型是F4[4]。 M2是盖亚香肠的一部分，这被认为是银河系吞噬的一个矮星系遗骸[7]。
