麻雀属（学名：Passer）是雀形目雀科的一属。大部分物种分布在旧世界非洲及欧亚大陆南部的温暖地区。有几种已经适应了与人类共存，如家麻雀，使牠们的分布地可以伸延至中东等地。[1]家麻雀已经引进到很多地方，包括美洲、撒哈拉以南非洲及澳洲。麻雀也已被引进到澳洲及美国的密苏里州及伊利诺伊州。[1]
麻雀属的巢很不整齐，通常筑在灌木、乔木、树穴、建筑物或是在白鹳的巢内。牠们一次可以生8只蛋，双亲都会负责孵化，孵化期为12-14日，雏鸟14-24日大就会换羽。[2]
麻雀属的体型细小，一般长10-20厘米。牠们呈褐色或灰色，往往有黑色、黄色或白色斑纹，尾巴很短，喙短而硬。牠们是独居的，但也会组成小群，其中一些有悦耳的歌声。[3]
麻雀属主要是吃种子，有时也会吃细小的昆虫。一些如家麻雀及灰头麻雀也会吃腐肉，绝大部分是杂食性的。[4]
