格利泽877的热光度仅为太阳的 2.3%[5]。它的视星等为+10.22，因此肉眼无法看到。然而，它比其他红矮星要亮得多，例如距离太阳系最近的红矮星比邻星；特别是，它的亮度几乎是比邻星的14倍。属于光谱类型M3V[2]，它的有效温度为 3390 K[5]。它似乎不是变星[2]。
