Lokomotif DD 51 adalah salah satu lokomotif uap mallet terbesar di Indonesia dengan susunan roda 2-8-8-0 yang dibeli oleh Staatsspoorwegen. Lokomotif DD51 memiliki kemiripan yang sama dengan Lokomotif DD50. Tugas utama DD51 adalah menarik kereta barang yang melintasi pegunungan Priangan walaupun juga difungsikan sebagai penarik kereta penumpang. Sistem uap yang dipakai lokomotif DD51 adalah superheater steam dan silinder lokomotif ini sudah menerapkan sistem compound karena memiliki 2 pasang silinder yang berbeda ukuran. Di masa akhirnya, diketahui pada tahun 1970-an tersisa dua Lokomotif DD51, yakni DD5110 di Depo Stasiun Purwakarta dan DD5103 tercatat pada 6 Agustus 1975 terparkir di lingkungan Balai Yasa Lokomotif Uap Madiun (sekarang INKA) dalam keadaan rusak berat. Bersama lokomotif DD50 dan DD52, seluruh unit lokomotif ini sudah punah dan tidak ada satupun yang di preservasi di museum kereta api. Seluruh unitnya telah dirucat atau dijadikan besi tua.[1]
