夏帝履癸，夏后氏之君也，先王發子。商人諡曰桀，惡諡也。

發崩，履癸立。履癸不務德而武傷百姓，作瑤臺，罷民力，殫民財，為酒池、糟堤。縱靡靡之樂，一鼓而牛飲者三千人。百姓弗堪，諸侯多叛。愛妺喜，為妺喜之言是從。關龍逢固勸，殺之。復召湯，囚之夏臺，已而釋之。湯修德政，諸侯咸歸。遂作《湯誓》，以兵伐夏，破之鳴條。履癸走之南巢，猶謂人曰：「吾悔不遂殺湯於夏臺，使至此。」遂放而死。

子淳維以衆奔塞北，號鬼方。
