碳素工具钢，简称碳工钢，指碳含量在0.7~1.3%的优质高碳钢。主要用于制造各种刀具、量具、模具。碳素工具钢的性能取决于碳含量，也与冶锻工艺有关。碳素工具钢在退火状态下的硬度，随碳含量的增加而升高。碳素工具钢不含合金元素，价格较低。
按中国国家标准 GB 1298-86，碳素工具钢有T7〜T13八个钢号，“T”表示“碳”（拼音：tàn），后面的数值表示含碳量的千分之几。含硫、磷等杂质更低的高级优质碳素工具钢则在钢号后加“A”。[1]
