舒尔茨星(WISE designation WISE 0720−0846或全名WISE J072003.20−084651.2)是位于麒麟座方向,距离太阳大约17—23光年(5.1—7.2秒差距),靠近银河平面的一对联星系统[2]。主星是一颗红矮星光谱类型为M9±1,质量为86±2木星质量[2]。伴星可能是质量为65±12木星质量的T5棕矮星[2],这个系统的总质量仅有0.15太阳质量[2]。这一对的轨道距离大约0.8天文单位(120,000,000千米;74,000,000英里[2],系统的视星等是18.3等[2],估计年龄在30至100亿岁[2],视差为166mas(0.166弧角秒),大约是已知距离太阳第80近的恒星系统[6]。因为过去的注意集中在高自行的恒星,所以很晚才发现这一对近距离的恒星。

掠过太阳系

估计显示,WISE 0720−0846系统在70,000年前曾经以大约52,000天文单位(0.25秒差距;0.82光年)的近距离掠过太阳[2][5]。在模拟中,98%的实验天体以120,000 AU(0.58 pc;1.9 ly)内的距离经过太阳的附近[2]。来自欧特云,受到摄动彗星,大约需要200万年的时间才会进入内太阳系[2]。这对联星系统最接近的的时候,视星等大约是11.4等[4]。估计大约每10万年会有一颗恒星穿越欧特云[4],但要接近到52,000天文单位或更接近,则大约要900万年才会发生一次[2]

名称

这颗近距离恒星是天文学家拉尔夫-迪特尔·舒尔茨最先发现的[5],并于2013年11月发表在arXiv,所以被昵称为舒尔茨星。
