延伸因子

延长因子(Elongation factor)为一连串蛋白,用于细胞内的蛋白合成。在核糖体中,他们促进转译蛋白的延长,从第一个多肽键的产生至最后一个。 延长为转译最快的步骤:

  • 原核生物中,约每秒可产生15~20个氨基酸(约每秒60个核甘酸)。
  • 在真核生物中,约每秒2个氨基酸。

延长因子在过程中扮演重要角色,为确保在这种速度下,有99.99%的转译正确性。

延长因子也为病原体毒素的目标。白喉棒状杆菌产生了白喉毒素,抑制了延长因子(EF-2),造成转换了宿主内的蛋白质功能。此种现象,造成咽炎以及在喉部的伪膜性炎症。
