| കാണാവുന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ | |
വലിപ്പം കുറഞ്ഞ ഒരിനം കുരങ്ങാണു് കരിങ്കുരങ്ങ്[3] അഥവാ നീലഗിരി കുരങ്ങ്. പ്രൈമേറ്റ ഗോത്രത്തിലെ സെർക്കോപൈതീസിഡെ (Cercopithecidae) കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ ഉപകുടുംബമായ കൊളോബിനെ (Colobinae)യിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. ശാസ്ത്രനാമം: സെർക്കോപിത്തക്കസ് ജോണീ (Trachypithecus johnii). സാധാരണയായി നീലഗിരി മലനിരകളിൽ ഇവ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശരീര ഘടന

ഇവയുടെ ശരീരം നല്ല മിനുസമുള്ള കറുത്ത രോമത്തോട് കൂടിയതാണ്‌. തലയിലെ രോമങ്ങൾക്ക് സ്വർണ്ണ നിറമാണുള്ളത്‌. പെൺ കുരങ്ങുകളുടെ തുടയുടെ അടിഭാഗത്ത് വെള്ള നിറത്തിലുള്ള രോമങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാകും. ഹനുമാൻ കുരങ്ങുകളുടേതു പോലെയുള്ള നീളം കൂടിയ വാലുകളും പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്‌.
ജീവിത രീതി
[തിരുത്തുക]അഞ്ച് മുതൽ പതിനാറ് വരെയുള്ള കൂട്ടമായി ഇവ സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നു. തളിരിലകളും ഫലങ്ങളുമാണ്‌ ഇവയുടെ പ്രധാന ഭക്ഷണം. ചിലപ്പോൾ ഇവ കൃഷിയിടങ്ങളിലെ ധാന്യങ്ങളും ഫലങ്ങളും മറ്റും തിന്നുനശിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്. വനനശീകരണവും തുകലിനായുള്ള വേട്ടയാടലും മൂലം ഇവയുടെ നിലനില്പ്പ് തന്നെ അപകടത്തിലാണ്‌.
