Copernicium[1] est syntheticum elementum chemicum symbolo Cn et numero atomico 112. Eius isotopi noti, maxime radioactivi, solum in laboratorio facti sunt. Copernicio-285, constantissimo isotopo noto, est vita dimidiata[2] secundorum viginti octo. Copernicium primum generatum est opus particularum acceleratorii in Medio Iontum Gravium Investigandorum G. S. I. Helmholtz[2] prope Darmstadium in Germania die 9 Februarii anno 1996. Nomen ex Nicolao Copernico ab IUPAC 2010 assignatum est; ante 19 Februarii 2010 appellatum erat ununbium.

Copernicium in periodico elementorum systemate est elementum transactinicum generis d-block et elementum gregis 12. Per reactiones cum auro, substantiam volatilissimam esse monstratur,[3] et gasium vel liquidum volatile statu normali videtur.

Monstratum est copernicio esse aliquot proprietates quae a proprietatibus eius homologorum leviorum in grege 12 (zinci, cadmii, hydrargyri) variant. Propter effectus relativisticos, eius electrona 6d, non 7s, amittere potest, et gasiorum nobilium, sicut radoni, potius quam homologorum gregis 12, similius esse potest. Rationes mathematicae indicant copernicium statum +4 oxidationis monstrare potesse, quod hydrargyrum solum in uno composito disputato monstrat, et quod zincum cadmiumque minime monstrant.
