Nusseltov broj

U prijenosu toplote na granici (površini) unutar fluida, Nusseltov broj je bezdimenzionalni broj koji predstavlja omjer konvektivnog i konduktivnog prijenosa toplote preko te granice (normalno na tu granicu). Naziv je dobio po Wilhelmu Nusseltu. Komponenta provodljivosti mjeri se pod istim uslovima kao i toplotna konvekcija, ali sa (hipotetički) stagnantivnim (ili mirujućim) fluidom.

Nusseltov broj blizu ravnoteže, prvenstveno konvekcije i kondukcije manjih intenziteta, je karakteristika laminarnog strujanja. Veći Nusseltov broj odgovara aktivnijom konvekciji, sa turbulentnim strujanjem, najčešće u rangu od 100 do 1000.

[1]. Konvektivna i konduktivna strujanja toplote su paralelna jedna sa drugim, kao i sa površinskom normalom graničnom površinom, a svi su okomiti na srednje strujanje fluida u jednostavnom slučaju.
