包擬古（粵拼：baau1 ji5 gu2；英文：Nicholas Cleaveland Bodman；1913年7月27號—1997年6月29號）係美國嘅語言學者。佢知名於中文方言（尤其係閩語）同有關漢藏語系歷史嘅研究。
生平
[編輯]包擬古出生喺芝加哥。1935年入學哈佛大學，但讀咗一年就停咗，去歐洲各地旅行。
1941年從軍，入咗海軍，喺珍珠港從事日軍嘅暗號解讀。
1945年戰後，佢直接入咗耶魯大學，跟住李奧拿德·布隆菲德、金守拙、羅常培、李方桂[1]學嘢。佢使用《釋名》研究漢代中文音韻，喺1950年取得博士位。
畢業後就職入美國國務院外事部（FSI）。期間，喺1951年到遞年設立馬來亞聯邦嘅英國人警察官語言研修所，喺1955年喺臺灣設立中文研修所。1961年，佢獲得古根咸嘅獎金，去印度、尼泊爾、緬甸搞藏緬語族諸語言嘅研究。
1962年就任爲康奈爾大學現代語言學系教授，敎中文及方言、歷史。1979年退休後繼續搞旺盛嘅學術活動。
業績
[編輯]包擬古喺外事部時代寫咗本福建話（閩南語）教育用嘅教科書。
- 《Spoken Amoy Hokkien（全2冊, 1955年、1958年）》. 吉隆坡.
有關漢代聲母體系嘅博士論文，喺1954年出版。
喺呢本著書，包擬古根據《釋名》嘅聲訓搵出大量嘅複輔音。
包擬古比較過漢藏語言，據此構築出中文祖語（Proto-Chinese）。
