HD 106906是一个位在南十字座联星系统[6]其视星等综合值为7.80,由于该星体光太微弱,无法用肉眼观察。[2]根据恒星视差,推估HD 106906距地球约337光年,并且正以+10 km/s的径向速度远离太阳[2]目前HD 106906属于天蝎-半人马星协下半人马-南十字子群的成员之一。[4]

该星体为一个双线光谱联星系统,由2颗质量相似且恒星光谱在F5V等级的F型主序星组成,[6]轨道周期不到100天。[4]

行星系统

目前已发现一颗HD 106906 b的行星环绕着该星体运行,该行星与HD 106906间隔预计为732±30 AU天文单位,周期至少为3,000年。联星系统周围有观测到过量的红外光,推估在联星边缘有着岩屑盘。该岩屑盘具有明显不对称形状,东侧长120天文单位,西侧长550天文单位。[4]行星轨道与岩屑盘倾斜39+20
−15
度,并且以行星的极点朝向观察,显示其具有较大的转轴倾角[7]
