《A Love Supreme》（一译崇高的爱）是美国爵士萨克斯风手约翰·柯川的专辑。柯川是在1964年12月9日，于新泽西的范葛德录音室（Van Gelder Studio），领导由钢琴家McCoy Tyner、贝斯手Jimmy Garrison，加上鼓手Elvin Jones组成的四重奏所录制。 A Love Supreme由Impulse! Records于1965年1月发行。其可说是柯川最为畅销的专辑之一，也列名其最获赞誉的专辑之一。这张专辑普遍认为是他的代表作，甚至被认为是史上最伟大的专辑之一。

A Love Supreme是一只由四个部分组成的组曲，包含〈Acknowledgement（承认）〉（这部分包含了一段人声咏唱，成了专辑的名称）、〈Resolution（决心）〉、〈Pursuance（追求）〉〈Psalm（诗篇）〉。柯川在其中各部分都是吹奏中音萨克斯风。某位乐评人指出，此专辑意在表现一种追求纯粹的奋斗、一种蒙恩的表达，以及对于音乐人其天分是来自于更高层次的力量这样一种认知的承认。[1]柯川位在长岛Dix Hills的家或许曾启发了这张专辑。[1]另一面的影响则可能来自于阿赫迈底亚伊斯兰教派。[2]
专辑由连绵的铜钹与锣声作响破题。Jimmy Garrison接着以四个音符构成的主导动机（主题旋律，motif）的让低音提琴进场，这个旋律带出了整个乐章的基调。柯川则开始一段独奏。他演奏著基于动机的几种不同变奏直到他把这四个音符重复演奏了36次为止。这个动机最后成了意象标题的人声咏唱“A Love Supreme”，而这段人声是由柯川将自己的人声在录音室重复叠加19次而成。[3]。在曲子的末尾，钢琴最早停止演奏，几小节后鼓组与钹也渐次停下。Garrison则在最后重复了数次四音符主动机，接着是一段下降音阶。最后他演奏了曲终乐句，这段乐句会指向组曲的第二部分。
在第四也是最后的乐章〈Psalm〉中，柯川演奏了一段他所谓的“音乐叙事（musical narration）”。爵士乐手暨作家Lewis Porter将其称为“无语的朗诵（wordless recitation）”。[4]祝祷之词有出现在专辑出版的解说中，而柯川则在萨克斯风上“演奏出”出这些诗词而不透过嘴巴说出。部分学者认为这种表演是在向非裔美籍讲道者的布道致敬。[5]这段诗词（同时也是柯川的独奏），最后落在一段高声嚎叫，“欢欣、优美、狂喜。一切都得自于神。感谢主。阿门。”[6]
西班牙的音乐杂志Rockdelux将A Love Supreme归类为调式爵士、前卫爵士、自由爵士、硬咆勃，以及后咆勃。[7]
其余演奏
[编辑]曾有〈Acknowledgement〉的另一个版本在隔日12月10日录制，搭配了中音萨克斯风手Archie Shepp以及贝斯手Art Davis。这个版本中少了柯川吟唱“a love supreme”；而他也确实较偏好带有吟唱的四重奏版本，于是成了实际发行的专辑。另外，《A Love Supreme》组曲唯一留存的现场录音，是来自于1965年7月26日于法国海畔举行的音乐节Mondial du Jazz Antibes。这张专辑由Impulse! Record在2002年10月29日，重新发行了修复过（remastered）的豪华版本，在附赠光碟中便包含了这场现场演出以及前述的候补版本。[8]而加上更多录音室花絮及叠声片段的再版，则发行成了一套三碟装完整母带版本，由Impulse!在2015年11月20发行。[9]
John McLaughlin与卡洛斯·山塔那在其1973年专辑《Love Devotion Surrender》的开场，以取名〈A Love Supreme〉翻录了〈Acknowledgment〉一曲。

在1965年1月由Impulse! Records发行后，[20]A Love Supreme成了史上最获赞誉的爵士唱片之一，[21]而现代乐评也将其推崇为爵士乐在战后最重要的专辑之一。[22]自发行后，这张专辑也一般被认为是柯川的代表作，[23]而到1970年以前这张专辑已经销售了50万张，远远超越柯川专辑平常越3万张的销量。[24]
