4月1日：法国主导兴建的滇越铁路通车，云南十八怪之一“第一条铁路不通国内通国外”自此形成。

5月9日：漳厦铁路通车，但铁路本身既到不了漳州也到不了厦门。
5月31日：南非联邦成立，开普政府铁路（英语：Cape Government Railways）、纳塔尔政府铁路（英语：Natal Government Railways）及中南非铁路（英语：Central South African Railways）合并成为南非铁路（英语：South African Railways）^[1]。

10月

10月1日：九广铁路英段通车。

11月

11月27日：宾夕法尼亚铁路在纽约市开设旧宾夕法尼亚车站（英语：Pennsylvania Station (1910–1963)）。

12月

台湾日治时期 12月16日：台东北线花莲港驿（花莲旧站）至鲤鱼尾驿（今寿丰车站）通车。
