韦斯特豪特49也称为W49,是银河系的一个有着强热电波源特征的氢离子区。它是加特·韦斯特豪特英语Gart Westerhout在1958年发现的。

它的距离估计约为11,100秒差距或36,000光年[1]。它位于银河系平面上,与银河系中心的距离大约与太阳相同。与巨大的氢离子区NGC 3603比较,其距离只有6,900秒差距。已经发现的非热辐射,被认为是来自一个古老的超新星残骸,也已经检测到气态分子流出以及H2O(水)迈射,但尚未发现光学对应物。虽然这部分是由于星际吸收,但在银河系平面上如此远距离的任何恒星紧密聚集,一般都与背景几乎没有区别[来源请求]

2014年发表的一项研究,使用了VLT与其它仪器,表明在这个恒星形成区域的中心星团中存在一颗非常大的恒星。所述恒星的参数(“W49nr1,也称为[WBB2016] 1”[2])到目前为止的约束性很差,但是估计的光度是太阳的几百万倍,初始质量在100到180太阳质量之间,甚至可能更多。因此将它列入最亮质量最大的恒星表中[3]。位于该区的另一颗恒星,[WBB2016] 2,质量为250太阳质量,也是已知最明亮和质量最大的恒星之一[2]
