粒子探测器(英语:Particle detector),是在物理实验、原子核物理学等领域用于探测、跟踪和鉴别高能粒子的一种物理实验设备。现代粒子探测器也用于测量放射粒子的能量动量、旋转和电荷等等。

描述

为现代粒子加速器设计的粒子探测器外部尺寸和造价都很庞大。当粒子探测器仅仅计数粒子的数目但不解析粒子的能量时,经常用术语“计数器”来代替“探测器”。如果仪器的主要目的是测量放射,通常以“放射探测器”来命名,不过由于光子同样是(极小质量)的粒子,术语“粒子探测器”仍然正确。

实例与分类

目前,许多已经研制成功的例子探测器都是电离探测器(其中又以气体电离探测器和半导体探测器最为典型)和火花探测器。不过另一方面,完全不同的准则也被应用,像Čerenkov光和过渡放射。
