康平学堂Campion Hall)是牛津大学的一个永久私人学堂,由英国的耶稣会管理。学堂建筑由埃德温·鲁琴斯设计。

历史

1896年9月9日,牛津大学圣约翰学院的校友理查德·克拉克(Fr. Richard Clarke)遵照他在伦敦农场街教堂的上级人士的指令,来牛津开办一所为信仰耶稣会的牛津本科生提供教育的学堂,即今康平学堂的前身克拉克堂(Clarke's Hall)。最初学堂位于牛津圣吉尔斯街(St Giles')40号,克拉克为首任院长。1896年9月10日迎来第一个学生[1][2]。因为原先租下的40号太小,所以在15个月后学院又搬到了11号,一直待到1936年为止[3]。1918年该大学获得永久私人学堂的地位,并改现名[4]

到1933年达西(Fr. D'Arcy)担任院长的时候,学堂与圣吉尔斯街11号业主签定的合同差3年就要到期了[5][6],在放弃了于圣吉尔斯街再建一所新房子的计划之后,学堂在布鲁尔街(Brewer Street)建起了新家[7]。新建筑由埃德温·鲁琴斯设计,在1936年完工,1954年成为登录建筑(等级为II*)[8]。除去汤姆方庭的一个喷泉不算,这是鲁琴斯为牛津设计的唯一一所建筑[9],风格则为科茨沃尔德式[10]
