切齿鱼龙属（属名：Temnodontosaurus）又译泰曼鱼龙或离片齿龙，是种已灭绝鱼龙类，化石在英国与德国被发现，生存年代为侏罗纪的海塔其阶到托阿尔阶。切齿鱼龙是种大型鱼龙类，身长超过12米[1]。泰曼鱼龙是切齿鱼龙科的唯一有效属[2]。
词源学
[编辑]切齿鱼龙属的属名来自希腊语，Temno，意为“切割”, odont意为“牙齿”和后缀sauros意为“蜥蜴”，即“具备切割功能牙齿的蜥蜴（鱼龙）”。模式种板齿切齿鱼龙的种名platyodon意为“板状的牙齿”[3]。
古生物学
[编辑]切齿鱼龙的眼睛直径接近20公分，使牠们成为已知脊椎动物中眼睛最大的一种。这些大型鱼龙类生活于深海地区，猎捕巨大的菊石与乌贼。
