建安县，东汉建安元年（196年）置，是福建最早设立的四个县之一。曾为建安郡、建州、建宁府和建宁路的治所。1913年，建安县和瓯宁县合并为建瓯县。1992年，撤销建瓯县，设立县级建瓯市，由南平地区代管[1]。
