少卫 (右垣)的恒星分类为O9Ia,“Ia”表示它是O-型亮超巨星。它是一颗大质量恒星,其质量是太阳的37.6倍,半径是太阳半径的32.5倍。表面的有效温度为29,000K;比太阳5,778K的有效温度高得多,使其具有O型星特有的蓝色色调[8]。它发射的光度是太阳的676,000倍,是一个弱X射线发射天体[9]

少卫 (右垣)的光谱线轮廓变化是由光球恒星风的波动引起;这也可能是由非径向脉动引起的。光谱中的吸收线显示径向速度变化,然而周期存在很大的不确定性,估计从0.36天到2.93天不等。来自这颗恒星的恒星风不是平滑和连续的,而是在大尺度和小尺度上表现出聚集(结块)的行为[10]。这颗恒星正以每年损失约6.3 × 10−6 太阳质量[5],或相当于每160,000年失去一颗太阳的质量。

在1968年,这颗恒星被归类为光谱联星,表明它有一个周期为3.68天、轨道离心率为0.45的轨道恒星伴星。后续的研究将这段时间延长至3.24天。然而,在2006年,人们认识到光谱的变化可能是大气或恒星风变化的结果,因此它更有可能只是一颗恒星[11]哈莱阿卡拉天文台使用3.67米先进光电系统望远镜英语3.67 m Advanced Electro Optical System Telescope进行的散斑干涉量测观测未能检测到第二颗恒星[12]

1961年,根据这颗恒星的自行表示空间速度大于30公里/秒的标准[13],少卫 (右垣)被认为是一颗经从星团NGC 1502中抛出的速逃星候选者。这是基于恒星和星团的运动学特性,以及这颗恒星在缺乏星协的高银纬的地区。在一百万年的时间里,这颗恒星应该在天空中已移动了1.4°,而据估计它只有200万年的历史[7]

像这样失控的恒星,其恒星风以超音速穿过星际介质,会由于冲压力,使它们的风受到弓形震波的限制。这种弓形震波中的尘埃可以使用红外望远镜探测到[14]。美国国家航空暨太空总署的宽视场红外巡天探测器(WISE)就观察到了这样的弓形震波。这颗恒星的行进速度在每秒680到4200公里之间:时速在150到940万英里之间。[15]
