原鸡的分布范围

原鸡（学名：Gallus gallus）为鸡形目雉科原鸡属的鸟类，又名红原鸡、茶花鸡、烛夜，现代被驯化的家鸡就是源于古代原鸡。分布于中南半岛、印度、南抵印度尼西亚以及中国大陆的云南、广西、海南等地，主要生活于热带林区、板栗林、次生林、阔叶混交林、稀疏林以及灌木林。该物种的模式产地在越南南方，缅甸与印度东部。[2]
原鸡叫声类似“茶花两朵”，故当地人称“茶花鸡”。原鸡在中国主要分布于云南、广西南部及海南省等地，现在属于中国国家二级保护动物。缅甸与印度也有分布。
原鸡的体形与家鸡十分相似，只是稍小些，且飞行能力较家鸡强。公鸡的前驱羽毛则多黑褐色，背毛黄而带黑纹，胸羽浅褐色，越向后色越浅。原鸡的内部结构及呜声等也与家鸡极相似，而且可以与家鸡杂交繁衍后代。
