Heta（大写Ͱ，小写ͱ），来源于腓尼基字母的 Heth，是希腊字母Η的前身。

概述

希腊人以腓尼基字母 Heth 为来源创造了 Heta 来代表辅音 /h/。后来，以拉丁字母为代表的古意大利字母采用了 Heta 作为 H 。 然而，古希腊语各方言中的 /h/ 逐渐消失。较早发生这个现象的爱奥尼亚方言中，字母 Heta 的名字很自然的变成了 Eta，所指代的发音也从辅音 /h/ 变成了母音 /ɛː/。这个改变从希腊进入古典时代之后 ，成为了全希腊通用的正字法。传统上一般认为，诗人西莫尼德斯是母音 Eta 的原创人。
