後周太祖，郭姓，諱威，堯山人也。本常氏子，幼隨母適郭氏，故冒其姓。少賤，黔頸為飛雀，世目為郭雀兒。仕後漢為鄴都留守，弒殺隱帝，遂出禦契丹，至澶州自立而還，悉出漢宮中寶玉器碎之。

帝如曲阜，謁孔子祠，拜其墓。左右曰：孔子陪臣也，不當以天子拜之。帝曰：孔子百世帝王之師，敢不敬乎。太祖在位三年崩，廟號太祖，諡曰聖神恭肅文武孝皇帝，葬嵩陵。
