Hermafroditlik
Hermafrodit, erdişi veya hünsâ; hem erkek hem de dişi üreme organı bulunduran canlılara verilen addır.
Etimoloji
[değiştir | kaynağı değiştir]Kelime olarak hermafrodit, Yunan mitolojisindeki Haberleşme Tanrısı Hermes ile Güzellik Tanrıçası olan Afrodit'in adlarından gelmektedir.[1] Bu adlandırma aynı vücutta hem erkek hem dişi bireyin birleşmesiyle ilgili bir mite dayanır.
Bu mitin çeşitli yorumları vardır. Bir yoruma göre Afrodit ile Hermes'in bir oğulları olur. Adını Hermaphroditus koyarlar. Hermafrodit o kadar güzeldir ki bir su perisi Salmakis' in dikkatini çekmiştir. Sürekli ona yakınlaşmak için uğraşır ama Hermafrodit'in nazı ile karşılaşır. Bir türlü yüz bulamayan Salmakis, Hermafrodit gölde yüzerken birdenbire karşısına çıkar ve sıkı bir şekilde ona sarılır. Tanrılara onları birbirlerinden ayırmamaları için yalvarır. Sonunda dileği kabul olur ve ikisi de aynı vücutta can bulurlar. Böylece ortaya çift cinsiyetli bir insan çıkar.[2]
