Markedsliberalisme

Markedsliberalisme er et begrep innen liberal ideologi med to distinkte betydninger.

Spesielt i USA blir begrepet brukt som et synonym for klassisk liberalisme.[1] Markedsliberalisme forstås her som en politisk ideologi som kombinerer markedsøkonomi med personlig frihet og menneskerettigheter. Markedsliberalisme blir da en motsetning til sosialliberalisme, som også støtter personlig frihet og menneskerettigheter, men som støtter en mer blandet økonomi med flere offentlige tjenester.

I Europa og annensteds blir begrepet ofte brukt som et synonym for økonomisk liberalisme,[2] altså en politikk som støtter de økonomiske aspektene ved liberalismen, uten at den nødvendigvis inkluderer de øvrige aspektene ved ideologien.
