NGC 181 သည် ကြယ်စုတန်း အင်ဒရိုမီဒါမှ ခရုပတ်ပုံစံ ဂယ်လက်ဆီဖြစ်သည်။ ယင်းအား Édouard Stephan ဆိုသူမှ အောက်တိုဘာ ၆၊ ၁၈၈၃ ခုနှစ်တွင် ရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိခဲ့ပြီး မြင်သာသောအရွယ်အစားမှာ ၁၅.၄၀ ဖြစ်သည်။[၂]
