പരിസ്ഥിതി വിജ്ഞാനത്തിൽ, നാശത്തെ ചെറുത്തുതോൽപ്പിക്കുകയും വേഗത്തിൽ പുനഃപ്രാപ്‌തി ചെയ്യുന്നതിലൂടെ ഒരു പ്രക്ഷുബ്ധതയോ അസ്വസ്ഥതയോടോ പ്രതികരിക്കാനുള്ള ഒരു ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയുടെ ശേഷിയാണ് റിസിലീൻസ്. അത്തരം പ്രക്ഷുബ്ധതകളിലും അസ്വസ്ഥതകളിലും തീ, വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കം, കാറ്റ്, പ്രാണികളുടെ ജനസംഖ്യാ സ്ഫോടനങ്ങൾ, വനനശീകരണം, എണ്ണ വേർതിരിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള നിലം തകർക്കൽ, മണ്ണിൽ തളിക്കുന്ന കീടനാശിനികൾ, വിദേശ സസ്യങ്ങളുടെയോ മൃഗങ്ങളുടെയോ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തൽ തുടങ്ങിയ മനുഷ്യ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടാം. മതിയായ അളവിലോ ദൈർഘ്യത്തിലോ ഉള്ള അസ്വസ്ഥതകൾ ഒരു ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയെ ആഴത്തിൽ ബാധിക്കുകയും ഒരു പരിധിവരെ എത്താൻ ഒരു ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയെ പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തേക്കാം. അതിനപ്പുറം ഒരു വ്യത്യസ്തമായ പ്രക്രിയകളും ഘടനകളും പ്രബലമാണ്.^[2] അത്തരം ത്രെഷോൾഡുകൾ ഒരു നിർണായകമായ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വിഭജന പോയിന്റുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ, നിലവിലുള്ള ഈ സാമൂഹ്യക്രമ ഷിഫ്റ്റുകളെ ക്രിട്ടിക്കൽ ട്രാൻസിഷനുകൾ എന്നും വിളിക്കാം.^[3]

ജൈവവൈവിധ്യം കുറയ്ക്കൽ, പ്രകൃതിവിഭവങ്ങളുടെ ചൂഷണം, മലിനീകരണം, ഭൂവിനിയോഗം, നരവംശ കാലാവസ്ഥാ വ്യതിയാനം എന്നിങ്ങനെയുള്ള പാരിസ്ഥിതിക പ്രതിരോധശേഷിയെ പ്രതികൂലമായി ബാധിക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയിൽ മാറ്റങ്ങൾക്ക് കാരണമാകുന്നു.^[2][4] സഹിഷ്ണുതയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഇന്റർ ഡിസിപ്ലിനറി വ്യവഹാരത്തിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ സാമൂഹിക-പാരിസ്ഥിതിക സംവിധാനങ്ങൾ വഴിയുള്ള മനുഷ്യരുടെയും ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയുടെയും ഇടപെടലുകളുടെ പരിഗണനയും, പരമാവധി സുസ്ഥിരമായ വിളവ് മാതൃകയിൽ നിന്ന് പരിസ്ഥിതി വിഭവ മാനേജ്മെന്റിലേക്കും ഇക്കോസിസ്റ്റം മാനേജ്മെന്റിലേക്കും മാറേണ്ടതിന്റെ ആവശ്യകതയും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. "പ്രതിരോധ വിശകലനം, അഡാപ്റ്റീവ് റിസോഴ്‌സ് മാനേജ്‌മെന്റ്, അഡാപ്റ്റീവ് ഗവേണൻസ്" എന്നിവയിലൂടെ ഇക്കോളജിക്കൽ റിസിലീൻസ് നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നു.^[2][5] ഇക്കോളജിക്കൽ റിസിലീൻസ് മറ്റ് മേഖലകളെ പ്രചോദിപ്പിക്കുകയും അവ പ്രതിരോധശേഷിയെ വ്യാഖ്യാനിക്കുന്ന രീതിയെ വെല്ലുവിളിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഉദാ. സപ്ലൈ ചെയിൻ റിസിലീൻസ്.
