സൂര്യനെപോലെയുള്ള നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളുടെ അന്തരീക്ഷങ്ങളിലുണ്ടാകുന്ന ശക്തമായ പൊട്ടിത്തെറിയും അതിനെതുടർന്നുണ്ടാകുന്ന ഭീമമായ ഊർജ്ജ പ്രവാഹത്തെയുമാണ് സൗരജ്വാല എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നത്. 6 x 10²⁵ ജൂൾ ഊർജ്ജം വരെ ഇത്തരത്തിൽ പ്രവഹിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. സൗരാന്തരീക്ഷത്തിലും സൂര്യന്റെ കൊറോണയിലും പ്ലാസ്മയുടെ ഊഷ്മാവ് ദശലക്ഷങ്ങളോളം കെൽ‌വിൻ ഉയരുകയും തുടർന്ന് ഇലക്ട്രോണുകൾ, പ്രോട്ടോണുകൾ, മൂലകങ്ങളുടെ അയോണുകൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ പ്രകാശത്തോടടുത്ത വേഗത്തിൽ ശക്തമായി പ്രവാഹിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

ഇത്തരം ആളലുകൾ വഴിയുണ്ടാകുന്ന എക്സ്-റേ അൾട്രാ വയലറ്റ് വികിരണങ്ങൾ ഭൂമിയുടെ അയണോസ്ഫിയറിനെ ബാധിക്കുകയും ദീർഘദൂര റേഡിയോ സം‌പ്രേക്ഷണത്തെ തടസ്സപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
