റോമൻ കത്തോലിക്കാ സഭയിലെ ഒരു വിശുദ്ധനാണ് എട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന വില്ലിബാൾഡ് (c.700 - c.787). ഇദ്ദേഹം മരണശേഷം ഉയിർത്തെഴുന്നേറ്റു പുതിയ ജീവിതത്തിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിച്ചുവെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ജീവിതരേഖ
[തിരുത്തുക]മറ്റൊരു വിശുദ്ധനായ റിച്ചാർഡ് രാജാവിന്റെ മകനായിരുന്നു വില്ലിബാൾഡ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സഹോദരങ്ങളായ വിന്നിബാൾഡ്, വാൾബുർഗ എന്നിവരും വിശുദ്ധരായിരുന്നു[1]. അതോടൊപ്പം വിശുദ്ധ ബോനിഫസിന്റെ ബന്ധുവുമായിരുന്നു [2][3]ഇദ്ദേഹം. ജനിച്ച് ഏതാനും ദിവസങ്ങൾക്കകം വില്ലിബാൾഡ് രോഗം ബാധിച്ച് മരിച്ചു. ദുഃഖാർത്തരായ മാതാപിതാക്കൾ മകനെ തിരികെ ലഭിച്ചാൽ യേശുവിനായി അവന്റെ ജീവിതം സമർപ്പിക്കാമെന്നു പ്രാർഥിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ വില്ലിബാൾഡിനു ജീവൻ തിരികെ കിട്ടിയെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. അഞ്ചാം വയസ്സിൽ തന്നെ വില്ലിബാൾഡ് ഹാംപ്ഷെയറിലെ ആശ്രമത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചു. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസവും പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. ഇരുപത്തിരണ്ടാം വയസ്സിൽ പിതാവ് റിച്ചാർഡിനൊപ്പം വില്ലിബാൾഡ് റോമിലേക്ക് തീർഥാടനം നടത്തി. ഈ യാത്രയിൽ പിതാവ് മലേറിയ ബാധിച്ച് മരിച്ചു. വില്ലിബാൾഡിനും രോഗം ബാധിച്ചെങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു സൗഖ്യമുണ്ടായി. രണ്ടു വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു ശേഷം വില്ലിബാൾഡ് ജറുസലേമിലേക്ക് യാത്രയായി. ജറുസലേമിൽ തീർഥയാത്രക്കായി ആദ്യമെത്തിയ ഇംഗ്ലീഷുകാരൻ വില്ലിബാൾഡ് ആണെന്നു കരുതുന്നു. ഈ യാത്രയുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു യാത്രാവിവരണം രചിച്ചു. യൂറോപ്പിലെ നിരവധി തീർഥാടന സ്ഥാനങ്ങൾ ഇദ്ദേഹം സന്ദർശിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് ഗ്രിഗറി മൂന്നാമൻ മാർപ്പാപ്പയുടെ നിർദ്ദേശപ്രകാരം ജർമ്മനിയിൽ എത്തിച്ചേർന്നു. ഇവിടെ അദ്ദേഹം വിശുദ്ധ ബോണിഫസിനെ പ്രേഷിതപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിൽ സഹായിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞു. നിരവധി സന്യാസസമൂഹങ്ങൾക്കും വില്ലിബാൾഡ് രൂപം നൽകിയിരുന്നു. 787-ൽ മരണമടഞ്ഞ വില്ലിബാൾഡിനെ 938-ൽ ലിയോ ഏഴാമൻ മാർപ്പാപ്പ വിശുദ്ധനായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.
