എ.ഡി 788-ൽ ഇഡ്രിസ് ഒന്നാമൻ ആദ്യത്തെ മൊറോക്കൻ രാഷ്ട്രം സ്ഥാപിച്ചതുമുതൽ, രാജ്യം നിരവധി സ്വതന്ത്ര രാജവംശങ്ങളാൽ ഭരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. അൽമോറാവിഡ്, അൽമോഹാദ് എന്നീ രാജവംശങ്ങളുടെ കീഴിൽ ലെബീരിയയുടെയും വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ആഫ്രിക്കയുടെയും ചില ഭാഗങ്ങൾ വരെ മൊറോക്കൻ ഭരണം വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടന്നു. മരിനിഡ്, സാദി രാജവംശങ്ങൾ പതിനേഴാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ വിദേശ ആധിപത്യത്തെ ചെറുത്തു തൽഫലമായി വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ആഫ്രിക്കയിൽ ഒട്ടോമൻ സാമ്ര്യാജ്യത്വം ഇല്ലാത്ത രാജ്യമായി മൊറോക്കോ. നിലവിൽ ഭരിക്കുന്ന അലാവൈറ്റ് രാജവംശം 1631-ൽ അധികാരം പിടിച്ചെടുത്തു. മദ്ധ്യധരണിയിലെ തന്ത്രപ്രധാനമായ സ്ഥലമെന്ന് കണ്ടു 1912-ൽ മൊറോക്കോയെ ഫ്രഞ്ച്, സ്പാനിഷ് മേഖലകളാക്കി വിഭജിക്കുകയും ടാൻജിയറിൽ ഒരു അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര മേഖല രൂപീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. 1956-ൽ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം വീണ്ടെടുത്തു. ആഫ്രിക്കയിലെ അഞ്ചാമത്തെ വലിയ സമ്പദ്‌വ്യവസ്ഥയായി മൊറോക്കോ ഇപ്പൊൾ^[11].
