ഗാന്ധർ‌വവിവാഹം
ഹൈന്ദവശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളിൽ പ്രതിപാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന അഷ്ടവിധ വിവാഹങ്ങളിൽ പെടുന്ന ഒരുതരം വിവാഹമാണ്‌ ഗാന്ധർ‌വവിവാഹം. അനുരാഗബദ്ധരായ കമിതാക്കൾ മാതാപിതാക്കന്മാരെയോ ബന്ധുമിത്രാദികളെയോ അറിയിക്കാതെ പുരോഹിതന്റെ അസാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ അഗ്നിസാക്ഷിയാക്കി ഗാന്ധർ‌വവിധിപ്രകാരം വിവാഹിതരാകുന്നു. മഹാഭാരതത്തിലും കാളിദാസന്റെ അഭിജ്ഞാനശാകുന്തളത്തിലും ദുഷ്യന്തൻ ശകുന്തളയെ ഗാന്ധർ‌വവിവാഹം ചെയ്തതായി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഹിന്ദുമതത്തിലെ വിവാഹവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട എട്ടു രീതികളിലൊന്നാണ് ഗാന്ധർവ വിവാഹം. (Sanskrit: गन्धर्व विवाह, pronounced gənd̪ʱərvə vɪvaːhə) കുടുബങ്ങളുടെയോ മറ്റു ബന്ധു മിത്രാദികളുടെയോ പങ്കാളിത്തമില്ലാതെ വധുവും വരനും തമ്മിലുള്ള പരസ്പരധാരണയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലായിരുന്നു ഈ വിവാഹം നടന്നിരുന്നത്.[1] ചരിത്രപരമായി പരിഗണിക്കുന്ന ദുശ്യന്തൻറെയും ശകുന്തളുടെയും as വിവാഹം ഇതിനുദാഹരണമായി പരിഗണിക്കുന്നു.[2]
