ധനതത്വശാസ്ത്രത്തിലെ ഗ്രഷാംസ് എന്ന നിയമത്തിന്റെ ഉപജ്ഞാതാവ് ആയിരുന്ന നിക്കോളാസ് കോപ്പർനിക്കസ് (ഫെബ്രുവരി 19, 1473 – മേയ് 24, 1543) ഒരു പുരോഹിതൻ ആയിരുന്നിട്ടുകൂടി ഗണിതശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ, ജ്യോതിഷ പണ്ഡിതൻ, ഭാഷാജ്ഞാനി എന്നീ നിലകളിൽ പ്രശസ്തനായിരുന്നു. സൂര്യൻ നിശ്ചലമാണെന്നും ഭൂമിയും മറ്റു ഗ്രഹങ്ങളും അതിനെ ചുറ്റി സഞ്ചരിക്കുകയാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം തെളിയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു^[1]
ലോക ചരിത്രത്തെ ഏറ്റവും സ്വാധീനിച്ച നൂറു വ്യക്തികളുടെ ഹ്രസ്വ ചരിത്രമാണ് ദ ഹൻഡ്രഡ്എന്ന പേരിൽ മൈക്കിൾ ഹാർട്ട് 1978ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച പുസ്തകം . ഈ പട്ടികയിൽ 19ആം സഥാനം കോപ്പർ നിക്കസ്സിനാണ്.

ജീവ ചരിത്രം 

1473 ഫെബ്രുവരി 19 ന്‌ പോളണ്ടിലെ ടോറൺ എന്ന പട്ടണത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചു. സമുദായ പ്രമാണിയും കച്ചവടക്കാരനുമായിരുന്ന പിതാവിന്റെ മരണശേഷം പതിനേഴാമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ അമ്മാവന്റെ സം‌രക്ഷണത്തിലാകുകയും ചെയ്തു. പതിനെട്ടാം വയസ്സിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ക്രാകോ സർവ്വകലാശാലയിൽ ചേർന്ന് തത്വശാസ്ത്രം, നക്ഷത്രശാസ്ത്രം, ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രം എന്നീ ശാസ്ത്ര വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ പാണ്ഡിത്യം നേടി.

1503-ൽ ഫെറാര യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും നിയമത്തിൽ ഡോക്ടറേറ്റ് ബിരുദം നേടുകയും ചെയ്തു. പിന്നീട് പിസായിലെ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് വിദ്യാർത്ഥിയുമായി. ഗ്രീക്ക്, അറബിക് പണ്ഡിതന്മാർ രചിച്ച ജ്യോതിശാസ്ത്ര സിദ്ധാന്തങ്ങളും ഗണിതനിയമങ്ങളുമായിരുന്നു നിക്കോളാസ് കോപ്പർനിക്കസ് പിന്തുടർന്നത്. തന്റെ സിദ്ധാന്തങ്ങളും നിരീക്ഷണങ്ങളും "റവലൂഷൻസ്" എന്ന പേരിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.
