അക്ഷരങ്ങളും അക്കങ്ങളും യെസ്(yes), നോ(no), ഹലോ(hello) (ചില ബോർഡുകളിൽ മാത്രം), ഗുഡ് ബൈ (good bye) എന്നീ വാക്കുകളും ചില ചിത്രപ്പണികളും ചിഹ്നങ്ങളും വരച്ചു ചേർത്ത ഒരു ബോർഡ്‌ ആണ് ഓജോ ബോർഡ് അഥവാ സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ബോർഡ്‌ അഥവാ ആത്മാവ് ബോർഡ്. ആത്മാവുമായുള്ള സംവേദനം സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന മരത്തിലോ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക്കിലോ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ഒരു നാണയവും ഇതിനോടൊപ്പം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. ആത്മാവിനോട് സംവദിക്കുന്ന സമയം ഓജോ ചെയ്യാൻ തയ്യാറെടുക്കുന്നവർ നേരത്തെ പറഞ്ഞ നാണയത്തിൽ വിരൽ വയ്ക്കുകയും ആത്മാവ് പറയുന്ന വാക്കുകൾക്ക് അനുസരിച്ച് അത് വിരലോട് കൂടി ചലിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

അമാനുഷികതയിലും അസാധാരണയിലും ബന്ധപെട്ട്കിടക്കുന്ന ഓജോ ബോർഡിനെ ശാസ്തസമൂഹം ശാസ്ത്രീയത്യ്ക്ക് നേരെ വിപരീതം എന്ന് അർഥമുള്ള ശാസ്ത്രാഭാസം എന്നാണ് വിളിക്കുന്നത്. ഓജോ ബോർഡിൽ നാണയത്തിന് മുകളിൽ കൈ വിരൽ ചലിക്കുന്നതിനെ അതിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവർ ആത്മാവുമായി ബന്ധപെടുത്തുമ്പോൾ ശാസ്ത്രസമൂഹം അതിനെ ഇഡിയോ മോട്ടോർ റെസ്പോൻസ്‌ എന്നാണ് വിളിക്കുന്നത്. ഇഡിയോ മോട്ടോർ റെസ്പോൻസ്‌ പ്രകാരം ഉപബോധമനസാണ് നമ്മളറിയാതെ ഓജോ ചെയ്യുന്ന സമയത്ത് വിരലുകൾ ചലിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.^[1][2][3][4]

ഓജോ ബോർഡ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് പ്രേതബാധ കൂടാൻ ഇടയാക്കുമെന്ന മുന്നറിയിപ്പോടെ ചില ക്രിസ്തീയ വിഭാഗങ്ങൾ ഓജോ ബോർഡ്‌ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതിനെ വിലക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.^[5][6]

സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഏതു ബോർഡിനെയും സൂചിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള ഒരു ട്രേഡ്മാർക്കായി "ഓജോ" എന്ന പദം ഇന്ന് ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.^[7]

ഓജോ പ്രതിഭാസം വെറും ഐഡിയോമോട്ടോർ പ്രതികരണം (ideomotor response) മാത്രമാണെന്നതാണ് ശാസ്ത്രസമൂഹത്തിന്റെ നിഗമനം.^{[1][8][9][10]}

ഓജോ ബോർഡ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നവരെ "ഓപ്പറേറ്റർമാർ" എന്നാണ് വിളിക്കുന്നത്.^[11] ഓപ്പറേറ്റർമാർ ഓജോ ബോർഡിൽ നാണയം നീക്കി വാക്കുകളുണ്ടാക്കുന്നത് സ്വമേധയാ അല്ലെന്ന് നിയന്ത്രിത പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളിൽ തെളിയിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.^[8][12] എന്നാൽ ഈ സമയത്ത് ഓപ്പറേറ്റർമാർ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന വാക്കുകളും വാക്യങ്ങളുമെല്ലാം അപ്പപ്പോൾ അവരുടെ മനസ്സിലുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങൾ മാത്രമാണെന്നതും പുതിയ കാര്യങ്ങളൊന്നുമല്ലെന്നതും ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.^[13]
