Sinoloxía

A sinoloxía (do grego antigo Σίνα Sína, "China", + -λογία -logía, "tratado", "estudo", "disciplina", derivado de λόγος lógos, "palabra", "dito", "expresión") é o estudo do mundo chinés, os seus idiomas e a súa cultura, exercido por persoas alleas a ela.[1]

En Occidente, o estudo da China data dos séculos XIII e XIV, época na que Marco Polo e Ibn Battuta introduciron a súa cultura. Pero o estudo sistemático comezou no século XVI, cos misioneiros cristiáns, entre os que destacaron os dominicos Francisco Varo e Juan Cobo, e o xesuíta Matteo Ricci. Estes temperáns traballos se centraron no estudo dos idiomas chineses, co fin de facilitar a conversión. Outras obras intentaron encontrar coincidencias entre o cristianismo e a cultura chinesa, a fin de poder difundilo.
