A International Auxiliary Language Association (IALA) foi fundada en 1924 para "promover o estudo, o debate e a difusión xeneralizados de todos os asuntos que interveñen no establecemento dunha lingua auxiliar, xunto coa investigación e a experimentación que poidan acelerar ese establecemento dunha forma intelixente e estable". en fundamentos". Aínda que foi creada para determinar que lingua auxiliar dun amplo campo de opcións era a máis adecuada para a comunicación internacional, finalmente determinou que ningunha delas era axeitada e desenvolveu a súa propia lingua, coñecida como interlingua. A IALA publicou materiais sobre Interlingua ata 1954, cando as súas actividades foron asumidas pola División Interlingua do Servizo de Ciencia (Sociedade para a Ciencia e o Público).
