Martin Ryle

Sir Martin Ryle (27. september 1918 Brighton14. oktoober 1984 Cambridge) oli inglise raadioastronoom, kes arendas ja kasutas uuenduslikke raadioteleskoopsüsteeme. Ta arendas terve hulga uusi raadioteleskoobi süsteeme. Ta oli esimene astronoom, kes pälvis Nobeli füüsikaauhinna. See juhtus 1974. aastal, kui ta jagas auhinda koos Antony Hewishiga.[1]

Ryle lõpetas 1939. aastal Oxfordi Ülikooli füüsika alal. Teise maailmasõja ajal osales ta radari arendamise juures. Pärast sõda asus ta tööle Cavendishi laboratooriumi Cambridge'i Ülikoolis, kus tema uurimisrühm uuris Päikeselt kiirgavat raadiokiirgust. Ryle osales paljude mõõdeseadmete väljatöötamise ja edasise täiustamise juures ning oli võtmeisik Tehisavaradari ja astronoomilise interferomeetria arendamise juures.

Ryle oli aastatel 19721982 Briti kuninglik astronoom.
