Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. — Czello (music) 20:49, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

I recuse myself from considering this as I've been involved in a discussion on the page. Not the one related to the request, but I think it would be ill-advised for me to be the protecting admin. Daniel Case (talk) 21:04, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. As this is always the same IP in the last days, so I do not think we need to shut down the whole talk-page; WP:UTPROT etc. Lectonar (talk) 07:45, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: for the Greek language page - Persistent disruptive editing to relationship status by an erotomaniac woman who thinks she is in a relationship with Jason Momoa. 2605:59C8:5286:B500:E8F8:FF1:AF20:68A5 (talk) 21:36, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Requesting immediate archiving... Lectonar (talk) 07:45, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism – This article has been plagued by persistent and blatant vandalism by IP editors, along with newly created accounts. Complaints about vandalism go back to at least 2015. Discussions on its talk page, along with limited duration page protections have totally failed to stop vandals repeatedly inserting identical uncited nonsense. As soon as any temporary protection expires, the vandal returns. Please apply indefinite page protection to retain the integrity of this article, for the relief of the genuine editors who constructively improve this. Militum professio scriniarii (talk) 23:42, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

@Militum professio scriniarii: If the vandalism is from IP editors and newly created accounts, wouldn't semi-protection be enough? jlwoodwa (talk) 02:40, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Lectonar (talk) 07:46, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
I respectfully ask you to reconsider. This article has suffered from repeated and systematic vandalism by IP editors AND newly created accounts. To answer {Ping|Lectonar)) about "not enough recent disruptive activity" - that is simply because the previous protection only expired around the 4 September 2024 - a day later, an IP inserted the identical unsourced BS about China and North Korea being official suppliers. If you kindly look at its edit history from 2 September 2023 and older, there are approximately 56 IP edits (by various IPs) reverted for the same uncited inclusion of China and North Korea being suppliers going back to January 2021. The edit history during that period is just filled with various registered users reverting this persistent vandalism.
To answer @Jlwoodwa: - yes, I agree that seems more appropriate to go for semi-protection. But being as this as suffered the same identical vandalism since 2015 - I honestly think indefinite protection is needed. Should any IP need to add genuine cited info, they can use the 'protected edit request' facility on its talk page. Kind regards. Militum professio scriniarii (talk) 08:40, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Recurrent unhelpful edits from logged-out users (eg changing to "German victory"). High notability topic so that's likely to continue (largest clash of tanks in armoured warfare history at the time). Suggest PC for low impact. Slowking Man (talk) 00:48, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent low-level IP vandalism. About once a month someone changes his middle name to "Lamborghini". Neither the amount nor the recency matters, it should not be permitted to continue. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 01:19, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Lectonar (talk) 07:49, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add ((Edit fully-protected)) to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: This redirect is fully protected because of an argument about whether it should be its own article. This dispute was settled over nine years ago, so this page's current level of protection is unnecessary. Cyrobyte (talk) 19:45, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among ((Edit protected)), ((Edit template-protected)), ((Edit extended-protected)), or ((Edit semi-protected)) to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the ((Edit COI)) template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

[edit]

On Sept 21st I will be offering a training to beginner editors during the World Congress of Audiology in Paris We will introduce participants to Global Audiology. I anticipate I will need to allow the creation of some new accounts at the same time, so I ask for this user right from Sept 21 to 23rd. I already hold this permission with both Portuguese and testwiki. Thank you TMorata (talk) 14:42, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Done until September 25th. Elli (talk | contribs) 14:07, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
Not done, revoked, and replaced with +eventcoordinator.
@Elli, this right shouldn't be granted to those running events. The eventcoordinator group is much better suited as it excludes some more sensitive rights like override-antispoof and tboverride-account, but also grants the ability to mark users as confirmed if necessary. stwalkerster (talk) 20:46, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
@Stwalkerster: my apologies; you're totally right. I don't know how I missed that here; I'd granted eventcoordinator before. Elli (talk | contribs) 20:53, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Requesting access for updating census data of highly populated Indian villages in Kerala state and other human settlements on this planet in future. Pachu Kannan (talk) 10:12, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

I would like access to AWB to fix CheckWiki issues more efficiently than I currently do using WPCleaner. I also want to streamline typo fixing as part of WP:TYPO. I understand I have been denied it twice in the recent past, but I strongly believe that I am fit for getting the permission now, as I gained significantly more experience and done more constructive edits. I would like to use AWB's Checkwiki functionality to alter position of references with respect to punctuation and incorrect ISBNs as I am frequently revising pages that need reference issue support; use find and replace for music album title issues; and use AWB for assistance on creating and correcting items and links within categories of music genres, domestic flag information, and public parks. Thank you. Shotgunheist💬 19:49, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Improve articles' layouts, correcting Spanish settlement infoboxes, changing IPA-va (depricated) to IPA|ca-valencia, adding IPA, correcting links, etc. I had AWB rights in the past, however I stopped using Wikipedia due to COVID-19. Hi, I have been an active Wikipedia for over 4 months now and have enjoyed my time on here editing and contributing to the community. If given this right, I humbly and truly commit to using it on a volunteer, fair, and competent basis, and would appreciate the acceptance Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:57, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Not done. Thank you for volunteering, but in reviewing your editing history I wasn't able to find sufficient experience with the deletion process to feel comfortable granting you the permission at this point in time. I encourage you to spend some time at WP:AFD and make policy based votes to show that you're comfortable evaluating notability. Alternatively, you can still apply to help out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:30, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I want to be able to help out with the next backlog drive, and be able to get into the more maintennance-y tasks of Wikipedia. I have written 340+ articles, and I want to branch out and do something new for once (article creation does get boring after some time). I've participated in at least 30 AfDs (for some reason it only shows 6) and initiated multiple AfDs, have used AfC several times (which is also something I want to be able to help with) and have never been known to be uncivil to other editors (I am a host at the Teahouse as well). I have also reviewed a few DYKs and have reviewed a GA. I also think I'm going to go through the NPP academy, to make sure I use these tools correctly and have more experience from other editors. I'd also rather prefer a trial run, because I want to see what the tool is like and learn how to use it before I go all-in. :) Sir MemeGod :D (talk - contribs - created articles) 15:35, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Done Joyous! Noise! 21:05, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello hello, I have been a Wikipedian for well over 4 months now, and I feel that I have learned a great many things about the site in terms of editing, content, policies, and conduct that I could have never imagined beforehand. If given this right, I humbly commit to using it to the utmost competent and fair / legitimate nature that I possibly can. Thank you Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I have been contributing to pages for four years now, with prior experience in patrolling edit filter log. I would like to get reviewer rights so I can contribute to Wikipedia in more ways than I am able to, presently, and help with the backlog. Since my last request in July, I've been making a track record of communicating collegially with other editors, in my talk page and elsewhere. I hope you'll consider me. Thank you. — ‎‎‎hhypeboyh 💬✏️ 23:11, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I have 16 months experience in editing Wikipedia. I wish to contribute whole lot of my time for betterment of Wikipedia and reduce the backlog in all possible ways that I can. As an initial step towards it, I am applying for granting this user right, so I can use it to improve pages in Wikipedia. Thank You! Mischellemougly (talk) 09:15, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]

Hello! I recently applied for rollback and withdrew my request after realizing that I was below the required 200 main space edit count. Now, I have 206 main space edits (mostly anti-vandalism work) as well as a month of experience. I would like access to rollback in order to use tools like Huggle and Anti-Vandal to revert vandalism more quickly. During my very first efforts to revert vandalism, I did fail to warn some users as I did not have access to RedWarn or Twinkle and had not yet read the related policies. Shortly after that, I read WP:VANDAL. Now, I believe I have since built a strong track record of warning the user every time I revert their edits and reverting only when appropriate. Thanks! Hello hello, I have been a strongly active and, I believe, positive contributor to Wikipedia for over 4 months now, and have throughly enjoyed my time editing and undoing vandalism/unconstructive edits whenever I see them. I have not reverted a *ton* of vandalism, but I do believe that I have at least demonstrated by ability to discern and do so, as well as doing my best as of recently to notify users when I revert their edits. Moreover, I commit to using this right fairly, constructively, and honestly if given it. Thanks Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:30, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Not done I reviewed your contributions and found little to no recent anti-vandalism work. If you're still interested in this tool then please spend at least a month actively patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, Fastily 02:38, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Understood Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:42, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Also I’m sure you noticed but I am also requesting the Pending Changes Reviewer permission, I think that would significantly help me in patrolling / doing anti vandalism as well. Since you are an admin, could you look into that request of mine? I would appreciate it Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:46, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

I have been cleaning up vandalism mostly with the help of Twinkle. I was granted temporary rollback rights in 2021 but then life got busy and I didn't seek an extension. I now have more time to dedicate to counter-vandalism efforts again. ClaudineChionh (she/her · talk · contribs · email) 13:05, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
