Salicaceae, les Salicacees, son una familia de plantes perteneciente al orde Malpighiales. Componer árboles o arbustos caducifolios y dioicos. Fueyes alternes, simples, axustaes. Flores inconspicuas, unisexuales, aclamídeas, acompañaes de bráctees y aconceyaes en amentos pendilexos o erectos. Anemófilos y entomófilos (Salix); periantio copiforme o nulu, androcéu con 2 - 10 estames; xinecéu bicarpelar sincárpico de carpelos abiertos; numberosos óvulos; flores acompañaes de bracteas. Frutos en cápsula loculicida, que s'abrir por aciu 2-4 cáscares; con granes numberoses, pequeñes, orlaes de pelos (diseminación anemocora), con curtiu poder xerminativo. Reproducción vexetativa importante.

Entienden unes 300 especies de climes templaos y fríos, principalmente del hemisferiu boreal. Formen choperas y saucedas de ribera.
