Samarium(III)hidried of samariumtrihidried is 'n soutagtige verbinding van samarium in sy +3 oksidasietoestand en waterstof met die chemiese formule SmH3.

Daar is ander samariumhidriede soos SmH2 en Sm3H7.[3]

Kristalstruktuur

Samariumhidried kristallseer in die trigonale LaF3-struktuur (tysoniet), oftewel die anti-Cu3P struktuur (D021 in die strukturbericht-klassifikasie}.[4] Dit het drie onafhanklike geordende deuteriumlae met trigonaal-planêre, trigonaalpiramidale en tetraëdriese metaalkoördinasie, met Sm-D-bindingslengtes in die gebied van 220(1)–258(1) pm (gemiddeld 235 pm).

By 'n druk van ongeveer 2.0 GPa is daar 'n fase-oorgang na 'n kubieke fase met a=537(2) pm.[5]

Samariumtrihidried en -trideuteried kan verkry word deur suiwer samariummetaal in 'n ystersmeltkroes onder 30 bar waterstof- of deuteriumgas twee dae lank by 700K te verhit.

Fisiese eienskappe

Die deuteried SmD3 is gebruik om die struktuur met neutrondiffraksie te bepaal, omdat 11H sterk absorbeer en inkoherente verstrooiing veroorsaak. Samarium in sy natuurlike isotoopsamestelling (natSm) is ook sterk absorberend maar hierdie probleem kan oorkom word deur 'n geskikte golflengte van die neutronestraal te kies (λ=49,396pm).

Die verbinding is nie-metalliek en paramagneties tot baie lae temperature. Die magnetiese gevoeligheid volg Curie-Weiss se wet met 'n ekstra konstante term:

Hierdie ekstra konstante word ook vir ander samariumverbindings aangetref. Die Curiekonstante C lewer 'n effektiewe magnetiese moment μeff = 0,63(1)μB wat effens laer is as die waarde van die vrye Sm3+-ioon (0,845(1)μB)). Die waarde van θP= -4(1)K wys op swak antiferromagnetiese korrelasies.
