Metteniusaceae is 'n familie van immergroenbome en -struike. Dit word tans in die orde Metteniusales geplaas. Dit is 'n onlangs erkende orde, wat nou 'n aantal genera insluit, wat voorheen in Icacinaceae geplaas is. Dit is 'n pantropiese familie,[1] maar fossielstuifmeel uit die Paleoseen is ook in Groenland en Arkansas gevind.

Beskrywing

Die bome het eenvoudige blare, wat spiraalvormig langs die stam gerangskik is. Marges is heel, soms getand. Blomme is tweeslagtig, selde eenslagtig, en aktinomorfies (maar sigomorfies by vroulike blomme van Calatola). Die vyf (of vier) kelkblare is vry of effens saamgesmelt aan die basis. Die vyf (of vier) blomblare is vry, saamgesmelt by die basis of heeltemal saamgesmelt en dikwels vlesig of soms harig buite (Metteniusa). Die vyf (of vier) meeldrade wissel af met die blomblare en is daaraan geheg of is vry en langwerpig (Metteniusa) en soms harig.

Gebruike

Die neute van Metteniusa edulis is eetbaar nadat dit in soutwater gekook is. Vrugte van Poraqueiba sericea word in Suid-Amerika plaaslik geëet, en sy sade kan gepers word om 'n olie te produseer wat gebruik word om kos te braai. Verskeie spesies, soos Apodytes dimidiata produseer goeie hout.
