Koljander (Coriandrum sativum) is 'n eenjarige krui en spesery wat oorspronklik in die Suidelike Europa en Noord-Afrika tot in Suidwes-Asië voorgekom het. Beide die blare (wat soms cilantro of dhania genoem word) en sade word gebruik om smaak aan kerriegeregte, souse en slaai te gee. Alle dele van die plant is eetbaar, maar die vars blare en die gedroogde sade is die dele wat tradisioneel gebruik word in die kombuis.

Die meeste mense ervaar die smaak van koljanderblare as 'n suurlemoen/lemmetjie smaak, maar 'n kleiner groep van ongeveer 4-14% van die mense wat getoets word, dink die blare smaak soos bad seep.[1]

Geskiedenis

Alhoewel inheems aan Iran,[2] groei koljander wild oor 'n wye gebied van Wes-Asië en Suid-Europa, wat die kommentaar laat ontstaan: "Dit is moeilik om presies te definieer waar hierdie plant wild is en waar dit pas onlangs gevestig is."[3]

Koljander is 'n hoofbestanddeel in Indiese en Thaise kookkuns. Dit word ook algemeen in boerekosgeregte (soos boerewors en droëwors) gebruik.
