Kaliumpermanganaat is 'n sout van kalium en permangaansuur wat mangaan in sy hoogste +7 oksidasietoestand bevat. Die chemiese formule is KMnO4.

Die stof is oplosbaar in water en gee dieppers oplossings. Dit is 'n baie sterk oksideermiddel.

Kaliumpermanganaat kristalliseer in die ortorombiese barietstruktuur.[3] Dit is die H02-struktuur van die strukturbericht-klassifikasie.

Chemiese eienskappe

Kaliumpermanganaat is 'n sterk oksideermiddel. Dit oksideer sulfiet en swaweldioksied na sulfaat, waterstofsulfied na swael, yster(II)soute na yster(III), oksaalsuur na koolstofdioksied ensomeer.[4] Dit word in redokstitrasies gebruik.

By verhitting word suurstof vrygestel:

Dit vorm 'n mengsel van die bruin mangaan(IV)oksied (met Mn(IV)) en groen kaliummanganaat (met Mn(VI)).[5]
