English: Photos taken on the day the French steamer Chodoc, belonging to Compagnie maritime des chargeurs réunis, shipwrecked off Cape Guardafui in July 1905 when sailing back from the Far East. The top photograph shows some of the 600 passengers and crew in front of one of the local Somali boats used in the rescue. The beached Chodoc is visible in the background (center left). The other photos shows scenes on the beach soon after the shipwreck, with Cape Guardafui visible in the background. The passengers were picked up two days later by the Russian transport ship Smolensk. The photos were published in the French magazine L'Illustration.
