A Lockheed P-3A Orion (BuNo 150501) of patrol squadron VP-49 Woodpeckers on patrol over the Atlantic on 22 January 1964. The P-3A is still painted in the original blue/white scheme. Early P-3As did not have APU (Auxiliary Power Unit). APU exhaust can be seen on other P-3s on lower fuselage aft of cockpit windows. APUs were later retrofitted to all P-3s. 150501 had just been transferred from VP-44 when photo was taken (it had been LM-5). Evidence of repaint in vicinity of "VP-49" and slanted "LM" (for VP-44) on vertical stabilizer.
